RC News Around the Sound

I'll try to keep any news posted here. If you think something needs to be here let me know and I'll get it done. You can use the link at the bottom of the page. (If the news hasn't changed for a while try hitting the reload button)

July 20th -
If you haven't heard yet the burn ban is on. No turbine flying at Sanderson field until it is lifted. Our links page has a link to the DNR web site where you can get current information.

July 11th -
As some of you noticed Hunter's hayed and put the cows in the field we fly in out there. As of today we have added our own lock to the mess on the gate. (I understand our lock makes 5 of them on the gate). The lock is keyed the same as our key at Sanderson Field. The key you have will open the gate at Hunter farms provided you can find the right lock. We have the same situation there that we have at the field with more than one lock so be careful how you lock it back up.

June 5th -
There is an electric event at the Evergreen Air Museum, I've posted more info on the Other Events page.

May 20th -
We will be having a public day on the 1st of June. This is the day after the Forest Festival parade, we will also be passing out flyers during the parade inviting people to check us out and going to the field after the parade.

May 9th - On Saturday, June 7th, we will be holding an Work party/open house at the possible secondary flying site at Hunter Farms. Bring a plane and come check it out. There is a map and directions here.

April 15th - Tax Day
! I got an email from the RAMS, they are holding a Warbird meet on May 31st. I've added it to the Other Events page along with links to more information.

April 10th -
The Toledo model airplane/model engine swap meet has been scheduled for June 21st. If you are interested there is a flyer HERE

April 7th -
I've added a new page called other events (look to the left). This page will hold various events around the Northwest and elsewhere if you wish. These events were picked by Dick Robb because of his interests, if you'd like an event posted let me know. There is a link to me at the bottom of every page.

April 4th -
The pylon race scheduled for the 20th has been cancelled, we had a scheduling problem which I hope has been taken care of. The next Pylon race will be on May 3rd and 4th.

Mar 28th -
If you are planning on attending the Maytown float fly, they will have a weather go/no go on their web site at   www.flaminggeyserflyers.com  It will be on the home page by 7:00 am the morning of the 5th.

The Port has scheduled over top of the April 20th pylon race. I sent Tom Strom Jr. an email but haven't heard from him yet. The squaxin island police will be using the whole runway from the 17th through the 20th.

Mar 5th -
Flaming Geyser's are hosting a float fly at Maytown lake on April 5th. There is a $10 landing fee and it runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. If you are interested there is a flyer with some pictures HERE.

Mar 1st -
This months Pylon race has been moved to the 16th, come out and help if you can, you still get a raffle ticket for the raffle at the end of the winter season.

Feb 23 -
There is another Pylon race scheduled for the 9th of March, come out and help.
We voted at the February meeting to lock in May 3rd & 4th and also September 6th and 7th for Props to hold a couple of pylon events. They can't be cancelled (by the Port).

The big news of the month, for those who don't read the local paper is that there will be no drag races at Sanderson Field this year, SDSA claims they will have they're own track built by next year so maybe there will be no more races at the Shelton airport. Time will tell.

Jan 8th -
The Props have scheduled another Pylon race in the winter series for February 17th. Come out and help.

Jan 3rd -
The new lock has been put on the gate, your old key will no longer work so be sure to send in your old key with your renewal, you'll get a new one with your new club card. Otherwise get a hold of me and we'll make some kind of arrangement. You can also swap keys at the next meeting on January 10th at the PUD. If you are not renewing please send it back to me anyway. You can use the contact link at the bottom of any page on the web site to send me an email.

Dec 27th -
The newsletter for January has been posted. There is a Pylon race on the 6th of January, come out and help.

Dec 22nd -
The lease has been signed and I have the new lock and keys, we will be changing it on the first. If you are renewing by mail send your old key with the other info please. We'll send you a new one back with your card. If you are not renewing please send us the old key back anyway, thanks.

Dec 14th -
The  Christmas party was well attended with lots of good food. We should be signing the new lease, which is exactly the same as last year, soon. We will be changing the lock again this year so have your old keys ready for the exchange.

The lease in a nut shell...

We have preference over non-paying customers for Scheduled Events but we can be bumped by paying customers with 1 week notice. If we don't have any thing scheduled any one can schedule use of the facility. The Port will ask them to use the north end if possible so we can fly.

Rates didn't go up this year.

We can have 2 events locked in (a total of 4 days) for the year that can't be bumped.

Nov 12th -
This years Christmas party will be a pot luck affair held at the PUD#3 in Shelton. I'll be there around 6:00 and we can go till we're ready to go home. Hopefully we won't have another wind storm this year but if we do, we'll have power! I'm keeping a list of what is being brought so if you are coming let me know what you are bringing. Email me if you'd like a copy of the list.

We are doing the gift exchange again. We're placing a $20 limit on gifts but you by no means have to spend $20, grab something off the shelf in your shop. Ladies should bring a non-hobby related gift with the same limits. We get in a couple of circles (hobby and non-hobby) and while a story is being read, pass the gifts left and right. It's a lot of fun and only takes 5 or 10 minutes. Hope to see you there.

Nov 1st -
Last months Pylon race was cancelled due to weather, another one has been scheduled for Sunday November 25th. Tom Strom Jr. informed me they would be handing out raffle tickets to the course workers for each of the winter contests and at the end of the winter season there would be a drawing with some good prizes. Come out and help if you can.

Sept 28th -
Props has scheduled another Pylon race on October 21st, this is not a locked in date (we've used them all up this year) and can be changed up to 1 week before. It's not likely though as we have priority over non-paying customers and they don't get many paying customers in the winter. We can always use help, so if you're not busy come out and help. The races usually start around 9:00 am or 9:30 am.

Sept 23rd -
I got a bunch of new runway usage notifications, only a couple of days we can't fly. Check them out on the events page (scroll down). Please don't fly over the people on the north end.

Sept 16th -
I just finished the letter informing everyone of the changes for next year and will be sending it out tomorrow or the next day. If you can't wait, you can get it here.

Sept 10th -
I just got notification this afternoon, Media Spigot will be using the field on Sept 12th. The notice says all day but I doubt they will be there in the evening so if no one is there, fly. I don't know how early they will start but I assume around 9:00 am. Sorry for the late notification but you get it when I do.

Aug 29th -
Everything on the runway usage calendar this month (September) is at the North end with the exception of the September 9th Corvette autocross (a Sunday). We have a fly-in/potluck on the 15th, bring an airplane and your favorite dessert or side dish.

Aug 18th -
The Miniature Aircraft Association (Tri Cities area) is having their Indian Summer fly-in October 5th - 7th. There is a flyer here. Or for more info go to http://www.higginsfield.org/

Aug 17th -
The August 5th and 6th Pylon contest turned out great, thanks to everyone for helping out. Once again Jody and Sharon Diaz went above and beyond the call of duty and provided a trailer to transport the pilots and planes out to the starting line. They also provided coffee and doughnuts to the course workers. Many thanks!

The big story of the weekend was a new world record in the quarter 40 class set by SFRCF member Tom Strom. 57.83 seconds for the 2.5 mile course. WOW!

July 31st -
I posted the August newsletter, I reprinted the article from the Shelton Journal about FAA issues with the drag races. If you didn't get a chance to read it, check it out.

July 25th -
I got this note from Thom Martin about some stolen RC stuff, if you hear of any of this stuff contact Thom or Sean. Click on either name to send an email to them.

All
Last night someone broke into my shop and stole a bunch of my RC stuff.  I lost 3 fuselages (Venture 60, Great Planes Rapture 40 and Captain Eddies Scout) a half dozen Futaba transmitters (conquest channel 48, and 2 computer radios channel 48, a single stick Kraft 3 channel) and support equipment (starter tote, fuel tote, brown plastic tool box).  They also took a pair of uncovered balsa skinned foam wings.  The fuselages were taken but not the wings so they may try to sell the engines (1 Saito 91, 1 Saito 56, and one OS 48 four stroke).  They took 3 electrics (an STS, Ultimate and a Suhkoi).  Also a loose Surpass 91 with an extended exhaust, etc, etc.

Anyway, sorry to be so wordy but as you can imagine I'm very upset to lose my entire active squadron.  Any help, vigilance or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I hate to think I might have to assemble an ARF just to get flying......

Regards,  Sean Chase - Longview

July 9th -
The Inland Empire Quiet Flyers are holding an all electric contest and fun fly with vendors and lots more on August 4th and 5th near Cheney WA. There is a flyer HERE. It seems the info has changed, there is updated info at http://www.ieqf.org/Electric_Fun_Fly.htm.

July 8th -
The Pacific Coast IMAC challenge is being held in Molalla Ore on July 26th - 28th. If you are interested the flyer is HERE.

After talking to the drag race people about next week. It is supposed to be like it was last Thursday which means there is plenty of room to fly at the North end. It's not as good in the afternoon as there are trees to contend with but it's flyable.

July 5th -
We were able to fly every morning except Friday this week, I assume it will be the same next week. If you have trouble with the new lock try not putting the key in all the way (pull it back out 1 click).

The scale fly-in will be a potluck, the club will provide the hamburgers and hotdogs but please bring a side dish or desert if you can.

We've been asked to have a display at the races this weekend, we will be there Sunday morning. Bring a plane up if you can.

July 3rd -
The Lewis County Radio Controllers flyer for electrics only had the wrong date (and year). It has been updated with the correct date. Look at May 17th.
The lock on the main gate went bad or was broken yesterday, it has been replaced. Your key will still work.

July 1st -
Scratch the Walmart display, the school field is not available. The Mt. Rainier club is having their 4th annual float fly at tanwax lake on September 8th and 9th. The flyer is here. Drag race prep is in full swing. The upcoming week will be busy up there. If no one is there you can fly at the North end, at least last year there was plenty of room there.

June 24th -
The last meeting led to some new additions to the events page, we're going to try the Walmart display again on July 14th as we got rained out the first time and also we voted to have a BBQ on August 11th. This can be changed by the Port with 1 weeks notice. If you can bring a plane and help out we would sure appreciate it.

I'm sorry for the confusion about the racers booking of the field. I only know what the Port tells me (not much) and can't help it if they book the field and then don't show up. If you do come down and they're not there...  Fly!

June 3rd -
There are a bunch of updates to the calendar of runway useage on the events page, be sure to check it out.

May 17th -
Lewis County Radio Controllers has sent me a bunch of flyers for their up coming events. If you would like more information you can download flyers for their Spring Picnic, SwapMeet, Electrics only fly-in and the 7th Annual Joe Crowley fly-in

May 15th -
I've just gotten more dates from the Port which I've posted. I can't stress enough that you need to check the website or call someone who can if you are coming from a long ways away. This batch is prep for the drag races, last year we flew while they did that but who knows this year. You might try going in and asking the racers if you can fly. Check the Events page for more details.

April 3rd -
The Idaho Scale Masters qualifier will be held on June 15th, 16th & 17th. You can get a flyer HERE and directions HERE. Or go to their web site HERE

March 27th -
I've updated dates on the Events page for field usage. Be sure to read carefully as not all dates are no fly dates. During the week of May 7th the dates are AFTER 6 pm.

Be sure you lock our lock into the other lock, NOT the chain.

February 21st -
Well, the lock has been changed, you now have to have a key to get into the field. If you haven't recieved your key yet, give me a few days to get them in the mail. If you need it sooner call me and we'll work something out.

February 17th -
The Port has contacted us with concerns about the combination lock on the gate and has informed us we need to get our own keyed lock asap. I don't know exactly what's going to happen but will post it here when I know.

Another no-fly day has been added this month, check out the Events page before you drive to the field.

I ran into the guy putting on the expo this year at the Puyallup swap meet and there is another flyer. This one lists the vendors who have already signed up, Powermaster is one of them.

It seems the 2007 Hobby Expo has found a home, The Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe WA. It will supposedly be held on the 24th and 25 of March. If you would like more info there is a flyer located HERE. I checked the fairgrounds event schedule and the Hobby Expo is listed. For those who don't know Monroe is about 100 miles from Shelton. For contact info see the flyer.

January 24th -
I've gotten a list of scheduled events from the Port and have posted them on the events page. Click on events and scroll down to field closures. I would highly recommend everyone check there before you plan on flying. There will be a lot of dates we can't. I will keep the events page updated with all the info I have, so CHECK or you may waste a trip.

January 17th -
Today I got a letter from the fair assoc. The letter basically says to get a hold of the Attorney General if you've given them money. You can read the letter by clicking here. Or you can get a hold of the Attorney General.
